ABSTRACT

In this study, the claims of the violation of disciplinary code which are conferred by The Disciplinary Board of Ankara Chamber of Dentists between the years of 2005– 2009 are examined in terms of the topic of the claim and the specifications of the people whom allegedly violated the code.

198 cases filed against 116 dentists have been examined in this study. With respect to the sort of the claims of the violation, the age, sex, professional position of the dentist, the distribution of the institution where the dentist works, in the event of the claims are confirmed the sanctions held by Ankara Chamber of Dentists are studied.

45 (%38,8) of the dentists who were subject to investigation were women and 71 (%61,2) were men. It was observed that 76 of the dentists (%65,5) worked at polyclinics, and the 63 (%54,3) dentists who worked at polyclinics were responsible managers, out of 198 claims of violation 163 (%82,3) were proven to be true and various sanctions were implied to the dentists. When the distribution of the violations were examined it was found out that mostly the dentists didn't comply with the prohibition of advertising (%42,9) and worked under under the minimum wage shown in the tariff of Ankara Chamber of Dentists (%22,7).

It was observed that the majority of the dentists, who were subject to investigation under the claims of violation, did not have enough information about the law, code and regulations concerning their profession, and also some dentists kept acting against the same provision of the disciplinary regulations. With all the obtained data, it is adopted that it would be beneficial for the members of the professional chambers are to be educated about the rules and regulations with in service training.
