ABSTRACT

In this study, it is aimed to reveal the profiles of forensic cases in our region and in the light of these findings to uncover the underlying problems and the real causes of social problems to be able to produce efficient and rational solutions by examining forensic reports which were documented at our department between 2005- 2011 years.

Forensic reports which were documented between 2005-2011 years at the Department of Forensic Medicine of Gaziantep University Medical Faculty were examined retrospectively and a total of 5524 forensic reports included into the study.

Analysis of the types of the forensic cases revealed that assaults and batteries constituted most of the cases (20,6%) and the remaining cases were respectively; traffic accidents 960 (17,4%), stab wounds (15,6%). It is identified that stab wounds (39,6%) cause more lifethreatening, traffic accidents (71,7%) cause more bone fracture than the other cases, in traffic accidents, gunshot wounds and in stab wounds extremities, in assaults head region are more suffered to trauma. Sexual abuse and substance abuse cases have increased over years.

It is necessary to revise the traffic education because of not detecting decrease in traffic accidents over years. Educational activities are required about sexual abuse and substance abuse in educational institutions to raise the awareness of public.
